This 2-4 hour chimpanzee trekking in the Budongo Forest of Murchison Falls National Park offers a unique opportunity to observe these fascinating creatures up close in their natural habitat. But not only that! Along the way, you might encounter other primates like the black-and-white Colobus monkey and the red-tailed monkey, and many types of birds and mammals. This part of the park is home to 600 chimpanzees, one of the largest communities of this majestic animal in the country, which gives you pretty good odds of spotting them, 95% to be more specific!
In the early morning, you venture deep into the lush forest, guided by experienced trackers who point out the chimps’ whereabouts. This trek into the jungle can be thrilling, as you can hear the distinctive chimp calls in the distance and you can watch them swing effortlessly through the trees from afar before you reach the actual group. Once you find a group, you have one hour to witness their social interactions and learn about their way of conversing. An amazing experience, that allows you to enjoy the proximity of these beautiful animals and absorb everything you can observe. But keep in mind that to avoid any disturbance, this visit is eyes only!
