Kenya has a long climbing history, although the climbing over the years has mostly been done by expats and tourists. Only in recent year also Kenyans themselves discovered the sport.
The country has many rock-climbing opportunities though. In total Kenya is said to have more than a thousand established routes. Majority of the routes are traditional climbing routes, but there are also multiple sport climbing routes and boulder problems. The bonus of climbing in a country like Kenya is obvious. Here you have the chance to run into baboons or klipspringers up high, while zebras and giraffes graze below!
In Hell’s Gate experienced climbers can enjoy thrilling multi-pitch climbing on the main wall, crack climbing at the entrance wall and some easy fun climbing on the imposing Fischer’s Tower. For unexperienced climbers, guides are available for a small fee, and equipment can be rented.
