Safari usually involves a lot of sitting in a safari jeep, but at Lake Naivasha you get the chance to stretch your legs. The shores of the lake are hilly and green and form the perfect backdrop for a walking safari. During this walk of a few hours you might run into hippos, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, waterbucks and other animals. Sometimes it’s even possible to get quite close to for example the giraffes. Once you reach the top of a hill you also get a beautiful view over the glinstering lake below.
Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake of 139 square kilometers in size. It lies at an altitude of 1,884 meters which makes it the highest lake within the Great Rift Valley. The landscape on the shore is varied. Huge swamps filled with papyrus plants can be found on one side, the rock formations of Hell’s Gate are located on another side and then there are the hills with dense forrest and Crescent Island below. The walking safari is usually done on the hills, but can also be done on Crescent Island.
