The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has been raising orphaned little elephants since their start in 1977. Daphne Sheldrick started the foundation in memory of her late husband, who was one of the founders of the Tsavo National Park. After his passing the Sheldrick family lived in Nairobi National Park where they started to take in orphaned elephants.
Over the years they have rescued many, who were either orphaned through poaching, droughts or other reasons. Nowadays the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has grown into a conservation organisation that works together with the Kenyan Wildlife Services (KWS) and helps to find, raise and bring back into the wild not only baby elephants but also rhinos and other animals.
It’s also possible to adopt one of the little elephants or rhinos. For only 50 USD a year you help to save one of these magnificent creatures, after which you get a certificate, monthly updates per email, watercolour by Angela Sheldrick and access to exclusive information about the animals.
