Additional information

Reviewed als HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended on TripAdvisor, the Nai Nami City Tours (Nai Nami meaning ‘Nairobi with me’) are not your regular city tours. Founded by former streetchilderen, it offers guests the unique opportunity to discover the life of Nairobi’s streetkids. Not by passing the cities most famous buildings, but by walking through downtown Nairobi, while listening to your guides’ fascinating and sometimes shocking stories.

On this three hour tour with Nai Nami guides Kissmart, Cheddaz, Donga and others, the guides tell you how they used to survive on the streets by trading stolen goods, sniffing glue or robbing tourists. They have lived on the streets since they were 9, 7 or even 5 years old and show you the places where they used to live and tell you their stories connected to these places. Meanwhile, you get to see places where tourists usually don’t come and get to have a feel of local Nairobi life.

The guides do their jobs with an amazingly energetic and positive attitude, that will allow you to learn a lot and truly enjoy and value this tour. The tour ends with a delicious local lunch together with your guides. To ensure a good interaction with your guide, Nai Nami allows a maximum of only two guests per guide.

Up to today there are approximately 60,000 children living on the streets in the slums of Kenya’s capital. They often lead a life of crime, and Nai Nami was founded to give them different opportunities. Since 2019, the former streetkids actually run the company themselves.
